Backyard Fence Transformation

We have been in our house for almost a whole year! Throughout this year, I feel like we have slowly transformed it. We have painted the majority of the interior, painted our brick fireplace, started renovating the office and we just completed our backyard fence transformation.
When we were first interested in the house and bought it, we knew that the fence would be something that needed to be replaced. It was an investment we were willing to take. One of the things that sold us on the house was the fact that the neighbors behind us had land and cows on it. We wanted to see those cows because we realized that they came pretty close to our fence.
We also considered that the house faces the east so if we tore down the back privacy fence we could open it up and watch the sunset + the cows!
So…that’s what we did.
After experiencing spring weather and fence pickets blowing off our already falling apart fence, we finally tore it down. We first took down the fence facing the front yard and the sides. We wanted to maintain privacy from people seeing inside our yard while driving by.
So, from the front of the house and the two sides of the backyard we put up an 8 foot board on board cedar privacy fence. It looks like we live in a fortress. We have gates on both sides of the house, so we can move to the front yard easily.
In the back, where the fence meets the property with the cows, is where we have a 5 foot pipe rail fence. This part of the process took the longest because we had so many trees and brush that had grown over the years that was not maintained.
We initially thought to have someone come to tear it all down and haul it away. However, once we realized how much that would cost, we didn’t want to make that investment. We decided to save that money and put it towards the cost of the fence.
So, we did it ourselves.
I have to say my hubby and his friend did most of the work-especially the tall and heavy looking trees, but I did have my fair share of work in this project and it was hard…and tiresome. The Texas summer heat did not make things any better.
However, the whole project took us two weeks. We did keep some of the trees. Also, there are quite a few stumps that still need to be sawed down and removed. However, I am so happy with how it turned out.
We really do have such a gorgeous view. It has become a part of our daily routine after dinner to come outside and enjoy it. The cows come up to us and we listen to them and watch them.
Recently, we purchased a projector and screen to watch movies in the backyard. The greatest thing about it is…no one can see us!
We have the cows mooing in the back, and the movie going while looking at the stars above us. Its amazing! I am in love with the whole experience, the backyard fence transformation, and am so happy to create family memories through all of this.
