Couples Weekend Trip to Nashville, Tennessee
Widely known as the “Music City”, Nashville, Tennessee is a fusion of abundant history, a unique musical legacy and southern charm. I invite you to explore this charming city as I share some of my favorite experiences and recommendations on what you should see when you go visit this iconic place.
For your stay I recommend staying at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in downtown Nashville. It is in the perfect location to access all the fun, but also a good distance from the nighttime busyness of the city.
We had no problems with service at the Grand Hyatt. There are good places to eat, get drinks and hear some good music in the hotel if you’re wanting to stay in for the night.
The first morning we were in Nashville, we ate brunch at the Nashville Grenade. Our trip happened to be on Veteran’s Day weekend, so we were able to sit at the window and eat while watching the parade. It was pretty cool to see Kid Rock about 10 feet away from us in the parade.
Country Music Hall of Fame Museum
There are lots museums, shops and places to visit in Nashville.
If you’re a fan of country music then this museum is worth a visit. It is well worth your money and I would suggest going without little kids if possible. It is fun to learn about how country music has developed over the years and see some iconic pieces from your favorite country singers.
There are three levels of the museum. You will start on the top level and work your way down. There are some interactive parts of the museum but not a whole lot. As you work your way down the different levels you will learn about the different decades of country music, learn some things about various country artists and see some of the outfits worn on stage from some performers. Once you get to the bottom floor you can visit the gift shop on your way out.
Broadway Street
You can’t visit Nashville without experiencing the night life on Broadway Street. The hotel is located on Broadway street so everywhere we visited was in walking distance. There is a singer pretty much at every corner and bar.
If you don’t own a pair of cowboy or cowgirl boots, you may want to purchase a pair before your visit. Everyone is dressed in their country attire going out at night ready to have a drink and listen to some good live music.
What is great is that you don’t have to stay at one bar. You can hop into several of them and listen to different music in each one. The singers performing all sound great and you’ll probably catch yourself singing along with the crowd.
There are lots of well-known country artists who have bars on Broadway Street. We saw Jimmy Buffet’s, Miranda Lamberts, Blake Shelton and Jason Aldean’s place. Every single bar is packed and busy and you’ll probably experience some interesting performances on the street.
The Gulch
After you have experienced the fun night life you’ll want to do some daytime shopping.
The Gulch is another great place to experience during your stay. There are fun shops to check out, some good food places such as Biscuit Love, and also the place to find the wall art to snap a few pics.
Biscuit Love is great place to go for breakfast but recommend going very early in the morning to avoid long lines. The first day we went the line was out the door and wrapped around. That was around 10:30 in the morning, so we decided to wake up early the next day during our stay to avoid the long lines.
The next day we tried, we arrived around 7:30 and didn’t have to wait in a long line. Plus the wall art area didn’t have a line to wait either so we were able to take a pic together without a crowd.
At Biscuit Love we tried the cinnamon roll, sausage breakfast sandwich and fried chicken and biscuit. This place is known for its flaky layered biscuits. The biscuits are pretty tasty and you will definitely not walk out hungry.
12 South
If you’re really up for some walking and shopping then you’ll want to check out the 12 South shopping area. It was about a 2 mile walk from our hotel and wore us out afterwards, but it was lots of fun and good exercise.
12 South shopping area is known for the adorable boutique shops- including Stoney Clover and Reese Witherspoon’s Draper James fashion brand. I loved the store Serendipity over here. It had lots of cute knick knacks and things to snag for souvenirs.
Five Daughters Donut shop is also located over here and worth a try. The gourmet donuts are made with real ingredients and there are lots of different flavors to choose from. I forgot to snap a picture of what we ate, but the donuts are worth a try and the long line to the street will tell you that other people think the same.
From the historic landmarks to the live music and delicious food, Nashville offers an abundance of experiences…
…even a simple cup of coffee.
