Broken Bow
Summer is here and so is a much needed vacation. Broken Bow, Oklahoma is a nature lover’s dream. Located in the mountainous area of southeast Oklahoma this city is a great place to visit year round. The stunning view of native hardwood and pine trees surrounding the highway provide a picturesque view.
Beavers Bend State Park offers so much beauty and adventure. Activities here range from boating, kayaking, swimming, hiking, and fishing. Not to mention there are so many stunning cabins to lodge in. This is definitely a place I want to experience throughout the different seasons. With this hidden gem being only three hours away from Dallas, we had to get a glimpse into this peaceful get away.
Reasons to visit Broken Bow:
The Cabins
The cabins are absolutely dreamy. Tucked away in the trees these cabins offer a taste of nature. You can witness wandering deer at sunrise and listen to the evening sounds of the great outdoors. Most cabins have fire pits for campfires and a hot tub. Each night we sat around the fire enjoying s’mores and good conversations.
Beavers Bend State Recreation Area
The drive into the park is quite exquisite. The tall trees tower over you and periodically you’re able to get a glimpse into the forest of trees. Once you arrive to the park’s recreation area the view is absolutely stunning and the water is super clear.
Beavers Bend Swim Beach
Looking for a place to unload the cooler, sand toys and enjoy a swim? Or maybe kayak, canoe or paddle boat? This is the destination to go for all of that. It may not look like much adventure happens at this location, but it surely does. This place offers various water activities and hiking. Also, finish it off with a refreshing snow cone!
Beavers Bend Steven’s Gap
If you’re a beach or lake lover then this is the spot for you. The open view of the water and the soft mud-like sand on your feet in the water gives you all the lake feels. Make sure to lather on the sunscreen because you will be sure to burn without it. This is a great place for the whole family to enjoy the water.
Mountain Fork River
A great destination for fishing and camping, but even if you’re not up for that it is a beautiful place to sight see. The roaring water from the dam pours down and the water rapidly moves over the rocks. It looks like a scene from a movie.
Talimena Scenic Drive
Located about 60 miles north of Broken Bow, this breathtaking view is a must before you head back home. Enjoy an adventure through the winding roads of the Ouachita (Wash-i-tah) Mountains. There are places within this National Forest where you can pull over and capture the view.
Make sure to be safe. There are no services along the route and cell service is very rare. You will want to make sure you have a full tank of gas, snacks, water, and a camera.
