There is a first time for everything, right? Well, this will be my first post of my holiday house tour, but I am so excited. It will be fun if I continue this each year and make this an annual tradition. It will be great to see how decorating my house evolves each year. I will say, it is definitely different from last year. Last year, I was so tired from our move and having a baby that I didn’t pull as much Christmas décor out- really its because I had just put it all away from moving. Looking at what I have done this year, makes me reeeally love our house even more.
My holiday home décor has been a collection of items that I have collected over the years. I am one for finding holiday décor items at an inexpensive price or creating it myself. A lot of my current holiday decorations are from the clearance rack from Target over the years and I’m ok with that. I am also a fan of going to thrift stores to discover some cute finds. That is exactly where I found the golf Santa Claus pictured below. It was under $10 at a thrift store down the street from our old house and I bought for Fernando since he loves golf.
“JOY” pillow is from Target from a few years ago, but I found a similar one like it here. The “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” sign is also from Target dollar section. All of the flower arrangements in my house are fake. I can’t keep flowers alive, so I just buy artificial flowers. My favorite place to find them is at Joann’s.
Stockings are all from Target except the white one in the middle. My grandmother hand made that one by knitting it. She made it for Mattisyn when she was a baby.
Dining room is one of my favorite places these days. The sign from Walls of Wisdom completes this whole room. Also, I love the way the sun comes through the window and I really enjoy the Christmas tree in the corner. That Christmas tree used to be in Mattisyn’s room until I purchased the girls new ones this year.
The 4 foot tree that used to be in Ava’s room broke this year. It was a little emotional letting that tree go. That 4 foot tree was the first tree I had in my room back in high school! I still remember the day my mother bought it for me at Walmart on clearance for $0.97! It served its purpose for many years. It was our first tree as a family of three when it was just Fernando, me and Mattisyn. We didn’t purchase the big tree we have in our living room now until 2011. I used one of my paychecks that I earned from working in a church nursery to buy that thing. We purchased the big tree for $88 from Walmart. I used one of my highest paying paychecks to buy that and felt so proud and excited to bring it home.
I went with a themed tree this year and limited the amount of personal ornaments on the tree. Currently, the ornaments have all shifted to the top of the tree because Rhett can’t leave them alone. I did put on the Texas ornaments this year, but placed those all at the top. The Texas ornaments are from my parents from over the years. It has become a tradition that they send us the ornament of the year purchased from the Austin Capitol’s gift shop. These ornaments are so special to me and I cherish this tradition year after year.
Since Fernando and I got married and rented our first house we started to collect our Christmas villiage figurines from the Dollar Tree. At only a dollar a piece, we felt that we could create such a great Christmas scene for our kids to enjoy throughout the years. We have continued to add to this collection and the girls absolutely LOVE pulling this out each year. They enjoy putting it together and sometimes gently play with the small figurines.
I love adding a little bit of Christmas cheer to the kids bedroom too. Each of them have their own Christmas tree in it. They use these as night lights and I, honestly, keep them lit all day. I love the glow and glistening they add to their rooms. It adds to the magic of the season.
