Narwhal vs. Unicorn Game
A New Spin On The Familiar Game of Tag.
I am always trying to think of new games or activities for my kids to play. New things to do keeps things fresh, fun and exciting. We play these games until we think of a new one and over time we have a handful of various games to choose from.
Often, I will brainstorm ideas of new games with the kids because they have great ideas too. So for this new game, Narwhal vs. Unicorns, I can’t take full credit for the creation of it as both of my girls helped.
Narwhal vs Unicorns, I know it sounds silly, but it is a game that is very similar to the game of tag yet with a spin on it.
This game is best played with 3 or more players and was created to be played outside.
What you will need to play:
- space to run around (preferably outside)
- bandannas for each player
Object of the game: avoid getting your bandanna pulled.
Game Description/Rules:
Each player receives a bandanna and must place in it their back pocket or the back of their shirt.
One player is it. This player is known as the Narwhal. He/She tries to pull the flag of one of the other players ( the Unicorns). Once a unicorn’s flag has been pulled, they become the new Narwhal. The game continues again.
The oldest person in the game is first to be the Narwhal. All the other players are the unicorns.
The unicorns are creatures that can only survive on “land”. These creatures can’t survive in the ocean where the Narwhal lives. So, before starting the game you must decide together what would be the “land” for the unicorns. We chose three places in our backyard to be land: our back patio, our playground set and one of the corners of our fence line. The Narwhal can’t go on the land, but can only stay in the ocean. The ocean is anywhere in the backyard that has grass. However, unicorns can’t stay on land for more than 30 seconds. They have to constantly be moving and they are only allowed to gallop around the ocean (no running is allowed for the unicorns). The Narwhal is the only one with the power to run and his/her flag can’t be pulled.
