Toad in The Hole
Toasted Bread With An Egg Cooked In The Middle-This Toad In The Hole Recipe Is An Easy Breakfast Recipe And Perfect For Any Morning.
Jump to RecipeI have been making this recipe for quite some time- since my oldest daughter was able to eat table food. This recipe is kid-friendly and really is delicious. If you haven’t tried Toad in the Hole before then now is a great time to try it! You will be wanting it every day of the week.
The ingredients are super simple-eggs, slices of bread (I use white bread), butter, and powdered sugar.
What is Toad in the Hole?
A hole is cut out of a slice of bread, toasted in a pan that’s melted with butter, with an egg cooked in the hole. I usually use a small circled cookie cutter to cut the hole in the bread. Although, throughout the year, I will use my seasonal cookie cutters to make the center of the bread shaped as a Christmas tree, snowman or bunny. My kids LOVE this.
How to Make Toad in the Hole:
Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in pan. While its melting, grab a circle cookie cutter (about 3 inches round) and cut out a circle in the slices of bread (save these pieces that you cut out. You will be toasting them too!). Once the butter has melted, place your slice of bread (and the piece cut out) in the pan. Crack the egg and pour it in the hole. Cook the egg and the bread on one side for about 2 minutes. Flip it over and cook until the egg is set and the bread is toasted.
Dust the top with powdered sugar. Serve warm.
Cooking time may vary depending on how you like your eggs. You can also poke the yoke and stir it in the center to give it a more scrambled approach. Toppings on your egg can vary as well. You can sprinkle salt and pepper on it, or even cheese. You could also add some ham in the center or spread some jam on it after its finished if you prefer.
