A Little Halloween Magic: Decorating Our Entryway
Halloween week is here, and you can feel the excitement in the air. The candy bowls are full, the costumes are hanging up ready to be put on, and our house has transformed into a spooky hideout.
My favorite part of each season is the decorating. But, I especially love transforming our entryway. It is the first little space everyone walks into. And it is quickly becoming my favorite corner of the house since we transformed it.

The Entryway Glow Up:
I started by using the witch hats (that I typically use to float from the ceiling) and put them on top of the lockers. I snagged these lockers from a barn sale a few years ago. I had always wanted lockers in our home to hide away kids toys or school items. Once I saw this set of four with all of them connected I knew instantly where they would go to hide backpacks, coats and shoes once the kids get home from school.
Four kids-2 witches, 2 warlocks. Each locker with a hat on top. I absolutely love how something so simple automatically can transform a space. I then added a few pumpkins to stack up and around the entryway.
The boys loved it and thought this was the coolest thing ever. In fact, they turned our little mudroom lockers into their own “Halloween hideouts.” I caught them more than once pretending they were secret portals into a witch’s lair…so of course, I had to grab my camera.

Capturing the Fun
Some of my favorite photos this season are of the boys laughing and closing themselves in and out of the lockers surrounded by all the pumpkins and hats. There’s something about those messy, joy-filled moments that make the chaos of this week totally worth it.
I love that these decorations don’t just make the house look cute but they create memories. The boys help me hang the hats, arrange the spooky cauldron, and, of course, sneak candy. Pulling out the decor and finding places to put it around the house has become our little Halloween tradition now, and I hope they remember it just as fondly as I do someday.

A Few Easy Decorating Tips:
If you want to recreate the look or similar look:
- Use the witch hats and place them in your entry way. If you have hooks to hang jackets, hang the witch hats on the hooks or grab some invisible fishing line and pushpins for the floating witch hats.
- Add battery-operated candles, like the Harry Potter inspired ones, or fairy lights for a safe glow.
- Mix different pumpkin textures, i.e. real, fabric, wood, or ceramic, for a more layered look.
- Keep it playful! Add a witch broom, a witch’s cauldron, or even a few silly skeletons to make kids giggle when they walk by.
Halloween week can be busy and wild, but it’s also a fun and exciting week for kids. Some simple decorations and laughter is the good stuff. By the end of this week, candy wrappers will scatter the floor, costumes will be hung up and the memories from the season will be talked about until next year.
