DIY Pottery Barn Inspired Burlap Banner

I am sharing how I made my Pottery Barn inspired burlap banner at almost 70% of the cost of purchasing the one from Pottery Barn.

Everything at Pottery Barn can be quite tempting to desire and purchase. However the price on some items can make me second guess clicking the “check out” button. I recently found this adorable burlap banner for Fourth of July. You can check it using the link here.

However, I am not willing to pay $30 for a burlap banner. Looking at the pattern of the banner through the pictures online I just felt that I could make a similar looking banner for half the price. So I challenged myself and I made one for a much cheaper cost.

How I made it:

I instantly started searching for a blank burlap banner at craft stores, Wal-Mart and Amazon. I found a triangular shaped one on Amazon for only $7! It measures 14 feet long and has 15 triangular pieces on it to form the banner. Pottery Barn’s overall measurements are 90″l x 11″h.

I then began searching for a small star stamp. Amazon has one for $8, but I really wanted to keep this project low in cost. I felt that I could find a stamp at a cheaper cost and I did at Hobby Lobby!

To create the pattern on each of the triangles I used acrylic craft paint. I used Berry Red, Admiral Blue, and White. You can find these at local craft stores or Amazon.

Using painter’s tape, I created the stripes for the red part of the banner and painted the stripes red. I did this project outside so the sun really helped with this project going much quicker. The paint dried fast and I was able to move onto the next part of the project fairly quick because of this.

For the blue star triangles, I painted the whole piece blue and allowed it to dry. Once it dried, I stamped each blue triangle with white stars. I tested out how the stars would look before I stamped it just to make sure I didn’t put too much paint on my stamp.

I am in awe of the results! It looks so similar to Pottery Barn’s burlap banner for a fraction of the price. With everything that I purchased for this diy project. I spent about $10 for the whole thing. Whoo hoo! I saved 20 bucks and didn’t have to pay for any shipping! Now I have a banner that will last for years to come and to decorate with each summer!

This diy project is pretty easy. You don’t need expensive tools or be experienced. You just need to gather the supplies and have some time set aside.

Happy decorating!
