As hot as Texas is during hte summer time I really do enjoy the season. Nothing can beat the feeling of a good bbq, a cold beverage and jumping into the pool. One thing that also makes it feel like summer is the decor too! Once the month of May comes around my spring and Easter decorations are put away and I pull out all the red, white and blue.

Patriotic decor is just must during summer time. You have Memorial Day and Fourth of July so close to one another and for me summer feels start in May. Yes, May is still considered spring but in Texas it really starts to feel like summer with the heat and the activities so it’s lumped into the summer months for me.

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to spruce up your house and get that patriotic feel is by adding all the red, white and blue colored items to your home. Here are some of favorite views in my home:

Flags and banners are so easy and inexpensive to purchase. They can be placed in so many fun places around your home.

One of my favorite things to do is take these inexpensive flags and create a vintage feel to them. Giving them that feeling that they have been worn and used a lot creates a vintage farmhouse vibe to your home. And it is so easy to create that look.

How to Create Vintage Styled Flags:

I have tried getting the vintage look to these flags using a few different methods. I feel that this way has always shown me the best results.

Materials:

First, find a plastic container that is going to fit the size of the flags that you have. I say this because once the flag stick is in the coffee it will stain a bit so you want the whole flag submerged.

Next, place the stick flags in the container and pour the hot coffee over the flags. Make sure all of the flags are submerged in the coffee. Stir them around a bit and make sure they are coated well.

Allow the flags to soak in the coffee for 4-5 hours.

After the flags have soaked, pull the flags out of the coffee and rinse them off with water. Dry them off gently with a towel and lay them flat to air dry. I always place my flags outside to dry in the summer sun. It doesn’t take them long to dry.

Once they have dried, iron them out on low heat. You can use a hair straightener too. Either way works. You just want the flags to be straight and flat again.

And that is it! Now they are ready to use for decoration or as a wonderful table centerpiece with all the vintage vibes!
