The Best Cut Out Sugar Cookie Recipe
I am going to share with you my favorite cut out sugar cookie recipe. This recipe is the ultimate recipe to give you firm, but soft, sugar cookies.

Baking cookies for each holiday brings me such joy. It almost feels like an art. Shaping the cookies, icing them, and decorating them. The whole process is rather fun. Typically, I get my children involved in this. It has become something they look forward to when a new holiday comes.
I am going to share with you my FAVORITE sugar cookie recipe. I have tried a lot of different sugar cookie recipes before, but this is the best one. The cornstarch really helps creating a chewy cookie that can hold its shape.

This has become the only way I make sugar cookies now and they don’t last a week in my house. They are eaten very quickly. These cut out sugar cookies are soft and chewy and they hold their shape so well!
These cookies can be iced with an easy confectioner’s sugar glaze or not. Either way they’re delicious!

Do I Need to Refrigerate the Cookie Dough?
This cut out sugar cookie recipe does work best when it has been refrigerated. Once the dough has been formed, wrap it up in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge for about 30 minutes before working with it.
Cut Out Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp salt
Icing
- 1 cup confectioner's sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1-2 tbsp milk
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar.
- Add in the eggs and vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients and mix together well.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet. Mix well until a ball of dough has formed.
- Wrap the dough up in plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 30 minutes before rolling it out.
- Remove the dough from the fridge, roll the dough out on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thick. Using cookie cutters, cut out the desired shapes.
- Bake cookies at 375 degrees for 9-10 minutes.
Confectioner's Sugar Icing
- Mix powdered sugar, vanilla and milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired thickness.
- Transform this sugar glaze by adding a little coconut, almond or any of your other favorite flavored extracts.
