Valentine Cardboard Letter U Rainbow

It’s not quite Valentine’s yet, but I know as soon as it gets here, it will go by fast! So, I am already starting on some fun Valentine’s decor.

I am pretty obsessed with making pom poms since I purchased my pom pom makers last spring. It’s pretty fun to make the different combinations of the yarns and tulle for each holiday. Pom poms are very simple to make when you use a pom pom maker. It is simple to wrap the yarn around the pom pom maker, but the yarn, tie it up in the center and open it up to a fluffy pom!

The pom pom maker I use can be found HERE.

Easy Valentine decor idea.

This year, I started out with combining some pretty pinks, reds, and gold to my pom poms. I love the color combination.

I think these pom poms could stay out for St. Patrick’s Day too with the gold touch to them. Don’t you think??

With these pom poms, I chose to continue combining the beautiful yarn colors to create a Valentine rainbow. Everything I used was from our local craft store, but I linked it up for you from Amazon.

I created my own pattern with the colors, but you could change the pattern to your liking. You could also change the colors too! That’s what makes crafting so fun.

The directions I provide below will show how I created it using my pattern.

Materials:

Yarn wrapped cardboard U.

How to Make the Valentine Rainbow:

  1. First, take your red yarn and on the back of your cardboard letter, apply a small dot of hot glue. Press the end of the red yarn to the hot glue and allow a minute for it dry before continuing.
  2. Once the glue has dried and the yarn is stuck on, begin wrapping your yarn around the cardboard letter. You will want to make sure yarn doesn’t begin twisting on top of previous layers. You want the yarn to lay flat on the letter to ensure a neat finish in the end.
  3. Continue to wrap the red yarn around 20 times.
  4. Once you have wrapped it 20 times around, make sure that the wrapped yarn looks even and neat. Then on the back of the letter, apply a dot of hot glue and press down the end of your red yarn onto the glue. Allow it to cool for a minute and then cut off the end of the yarn.
  5. Next, grab your light pink yarn, apply a dot of hot glue next to the end of your red yarn and press the end of your light pink yarn on the hot glue. Allow the glue to dry before you begin wrapping.
  6. Wrap your light pink yarn around the letter 20 times. Once you have wrapped it 20 times, apply a dot a of hot glue on the back of the letter and press the end of your light pink yarn to the glue. Once it has dried, cut the yarn and grab your hot pink yarn.
  7. Apply hot glue to the end of your light pink yarn on the cardboard letter and press the end of your hot pink yarn to the glue. Allow to cool and wrap the hot pink yarn around 20 times.
  8. You will repeat these steps with the white yarn and then continue these steps again when continuing your yarn pattern around the cardboard shape.

Once all of your yarn is wrapped around the cardboard letter, it should look like this!
